A sum of Rs.10 million has been allocated by Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage as expenditure for necessary facilities for sportsmen and women who will represent Sri Lanka at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
The minister distributed this money by cheque to the respective associations representing Sri Lanka at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games and Asian Games the other day.
Fourteen sports disciplines namely athletics, rugby football, badminton, shooting, weight lifting, boxing, beach volleyball, table tennis, netball, judo, football, archery, swimming, rowing and golf will benefit under the first phase of this arrangement. Rugby, golf, boxing, weight lifting, cycling, rowing, volleyball will benefit from cash from Rs.5 lakhs up to Rs.10 lakhs.
