R. M. Faizer of the Abishek Bodybuilding Centre emerged champion at the National Amateur Bodybuilding Championships conducted at the S.D.S. Jayasinghe hall, Dehiwala. There were 182 competitors. and in the finals worked out between winners of the seven weight categories was M. A. Naushad while the second runner-up was Suminda Chamara
The championships were conducted under seven weight categories.
For the first time, winners were given cash awards, according to the President of the Sri Lanka Bodybuilding Federation, Kapila Kumara.
Second and third placed were given cash awards of Rs. 7500/= and Rs.5000/= respectively.
The 70 kilogram weight category for senior’s event was won by R.R. Joseph while the runner-up was M.Imran and second runner-up K.A.L.Kuruppu. The over 70 kilogram weight category was won by M. Naushad who was placed second in the overall championships. Second and third places went to M.A.Lakshitha and A.S.Jayasuriya.
